The first show of the year for the RHS Drama Department was good one. We The People was a unique show, from the cast to the set, but the drama department did a wonderful job. “ It was a fun show to do,” said Jen Gilchrest, one of the actors. The show was based on America and The Constitution. Some of the students were wary of doing such a serious show but once things started coming together everyone was happy. Another aspect of this years fall show that was different from previous years was the number of first year drama students that participated. “ It was overall a great experience. It taught me a lot about America. Our show may not have been the biggest play but it was a great little play,” stated Craig Curdie, one of the first year drama students who performed.

The set was made up of a table, a few chairs, and a PowerPoint presentation. It does not sound like too much trouble but the Stage Crew definitely had their work cut out for them. From running the slideshow on cue, to running spotlights, stage lights and sound effects. Dorian Smith, a Stage Crew member, had this to say when asked about working the show, “It was a different show to work. It was unique but fun. Getting to work on the set and see the show so many times really impacted me. I learned a lot of things about America and our Constitution.”

Overall the Drama Departments first show with their new teacher went great. All of the people involved learned a lot. They learned about theater, tech work, America, each other and how to work together. Everyone had a lot of fun. After the show Ms. Rutherford was asked what she thought about it, “ I was quite pleased with the show. The audience was very appreciative and we had two very nice houses. I am very excited about the spring play.” She also said that one hundred dollars from the box office would be donated to the Red Cross Relief Fund.
