Winning a section title is not an easy task, however the Lady Rams head into the season expecting one. With a solid nucleus of seniors returning, the Rams are ready to pounce on their opponents. Senior captain Sarah Hogya says that she “anticipates a very good season”. With lofty expectations comes plenty of pressure, but pressure is nothing new to this squad after winning 4 straight section titles. Belle Vernon and Elizabeth Forward figure to be the Lady Rams toughest opponents this year. When asked about the pressure of winning a fifth straight section title senior captain Tiffany Sherred says, “We try not to think about it. We just go out and play our game.” However, the Lady Rams are criticized for never being able to win a first round playoff game in the last four years. That is why the team goal is to not only win the section, but to finally get over the playoff “hump” and win a playoff game. Starting in goal for the Lady Rams will be senior Julie Peck. Defenders Lisa Spaziani, Laura Bassi, Kayla Fransco and Nicole Bellis will be trying to make the job much easier on Peck. At inside mid-field will be Tiffany Sherred and Emily Corbett with Sarah Hogya and sister Christina Hogya playing the outside mid-field positions. At the striker position, freshman Emily Schartner will be starting along side senior Mandy Shine. Shine needs just eight more goals to break the record for career goals scored at Ringgold. The Lady Rams expectations can be summed up in one word: success.
