Great Expectations for Rams’ football

An optimist would say the Rams’ football team has returning lettermen, a solid defense, the ability to score on special teams, and a talented group of experienced seniors.

On the other hand, the pessimist would think Ringgold has won only five games in the past three seasons, and they face some of the toughest teams in the WPIAL such as, power houses Moon, West Allegheny and state champs Thomas Jefferson.

Either way you choose to look at the season, big things are expected from the Rams. “We did a lot of work and made a lot of improvements in the off season,” Ringgold teacher and special teams coach Mr. Smith said. “Our strength comes from our backfield and defense.” Smith puts a lot of leadership responsibilities on his seniors since most of them have had previous varsity experience.

The seniors themselves realize how important this year is. “Playoffs,” said senior Ed Rosenfeld, “we work hard, it’s our time.” Athletic director Mr. Campos also has the right mindset. “The glass is always half full,” he says, “Last year was Moore’s inaugural season and the boys have adapted well to him, you can plan on this being a good season.”

As for a prediction of the Rams’ record this year, Coach Smith could only say, “I don’t have a crystal ball, it’s any given Friday.”
